The Women's Engineering Society’s WE50 Awards, a prominent UK event tied to International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), occurs annually on 23 June. This year, CIBSE proudly celebrates two of its members among the 50 distinguished women honoured for their exceptional contributions to engineering.
Barbara Sacha: After completing her university education, Barbara moved to Dubai, where she worked on large-scale projects for a decade. In 2017, she relocated to the UK and joined her current company, Cundall. Starting in mechanical engineering, Barbara advanced to a building services lead role and then to a design management role. She has been instrumental in developing Cundall’s design management team dedicated to the critical systems sector. A CIBSE member since 2015, Barbara holds both Member grade (MCIBSE) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
Dr. Abigail Hathway: Currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield, Dr. Abigail Hathway has made significant contributions to engineering education and accreditation. She chaired CIBSE’s Accreditation Panel from 2020 to 2021 and remained an active member until recently stepping down. Since joining the panel in 2015, she has overseen numerous academic accreditations and participated in accreditation visits to institutions such as De Montfort University, Cambridge University, Leeds University, and Hong Kong Polytechnic. Dr. Hathway has also been a CIBSE Yorkshire committee member and has been with CIBSE since 2005, earning her Member grade (MCIBSE) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) status in 2014.
CIBSE extends its heartfelt congratulations to Barbara and Abigail for their remarkable achievements and recognition in the WE50 Awards. Their dedication and contributions to the field of engineering exemplify the excellence and innovation that CIBSE strives to promote.
