CIBSE Graduate member and MSc Graduate from the UCL Faculty of the Built Environment, Tamanna Verma, represented the UK at the REHVA Student Competition on Thursday, 16 May 2024 in Istanbul, Türkiye.
Amongst 13 other graduates from across Europe, Tamanna gave a robust and informative opening presentation in front of an international judging panel that included Dr Yangang Xing of Nottingham Trent University. In a polished presentation, Tamanna described her final MSc project that considered 'Evaluating the impact of luminance contrast on task performance whilst working on fixed and portable digital screens in a computer library’. Her presentation cited a study conducted to evaluate participants' performance based on time and accuracy. The objective was to quantify the effects of luminance contrast on task performance, providing insights for lighting designers and architects on lighting design in emerging digital libraries and workspaces.
With the highest number of finalists entering the competition, the first prize was awarded to João Mota from the University of Coimbra, Portugal for his paper and presentation on ‘Acoustic assessment of a novel visor concept with aerodynamic sealing for medical care’. Angelika Václavová from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia won the prize for best poster.
