An introduction to fire resisting ductwork, considering both the British Standards (BS 476: Part 24), and European Standards (EN 1366-1, 8, and 9). Discussions shall surround the different types of application where fire resisting ductwork is generally used, including ventilation, smoke control, and kitchen extract systems.

Mick Amery, Firemac Systems Manager, Firemac Ltd. Mick has a significant amount of experience in the HVAC industry, with over 30 years experience, working with various fire resisting ductwork systems. For approximately the past 10 years, Mick has worked with Firemac, and has coordinated the manufacture and installation of full-scale fire resistance test specimens. Mick has also overseen site inspections including the certification of fire resisting ductwork systems, and has attended site meetings, at Firemac. Mick also volunteers with the Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP), as a member of their 'Fire Resisting Ductwork & Dampers Task Group' (TG6). Sandy Newlands, Technical Advisor, Firemac Ltd. Sandy has worked in the design, development and installation of passive fire protection products, including coordinating the design, build and destruction of full-scale fire resistance test specimens from a technical perspective. Sandy has also overseen the submittal of reaction-to-fire, and physical and mechanical property test specimens. Sandy also volunteers with the Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP), as a member of their 'Technical Committee' (TCOM) and 'Fire Resisting Ductwork & Dampers Task Group' (TG6), and self studied for the IFE Level 3 Certificate in Passive Fire Protection, which he obtained in January 2020. Sandy also volunteers with the IFE Scotland branch.
