SLL announce new LightBytes series

People, Space, Time and Place

The SLL are delighted to confirm that the new LightBytes series will be kicking off in Birmingham on 10 October 2019. The new series will be supported by the SLL Sponsors in Partnership, Soraa, Thorlux, Xicato and Zumtobel.

Each year, the SLL works with its Sponsors in Partnership to decide on a theme, focusing on pressing issues that affect not only those working in lighting but also in related industries. This is informed by member and industry feedback, along with comments and suggestions from delegates that attended the previous series.

A panel of expert speakers is currently preparing their presentations for peer review, prior to the start of the series in October. This year’s speakers are Martin Barclay, Specification Sales Manager UK for Soraa; Richard Caple FSLL, Marketing and Applications Director for Thorlux; Roger Sexton FSLL, Vice President Specifier Support for Xicato; and Graeme Shaw MSLL, Technical Applications Manager for Zumtobel.

This year, the speakers from the sponsoring organisations will also be joined by Dr Eleonora Brembilla, a Research Associate in Advanced Building Daylight Modelling at Loughborough University.

Whilst there is still a very present need for research and conclusive evidence in relation to circadian lighting or the application of lighting for wellness, there is no substitute for daylight in relation to the stimulation of the circadian system and support of human health. Dr Brembilla will be outlining daylight as the foremost consideration in relation to lighting design and its contribution to occupant wellbeing.

Each of the LightBytes events is split into 4 sessions, with speakers delivering bite-sized, peer reviewed presentations for each session. The day provides an opportunity to add 4.5 hours of CIBSE Accredited CPD to your record. Previously the SLL Masterclasses, LightBytes was developed in 2017 with the new format receiving a resoundingly positive response over the last two series:

“LightBytes offers delegates informative, peer reviewed presentations on the latest lighting technology and applications, with consideration not just of the design, but also the running and upgrade of, and feedback from, installed lighting systems.”

Iain Carlile, SLL Immediate Past President and Senior Associate, dpa lighting consultants
