2024 Awards explore AI and emerging technologies

News
24 Apr 24

The overarching theme of the 2024 CIBSE ANZ Young Engineers Award is Emerging Technologies. More specifically, Students, Graduates and Young Engineers are being asked to assess the impacts and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence, to varying degrees, on the building services industry.

To provide some inspiration and support for potential applicants, CIBSE is hosting a panel discussion next month that includes past finalists who will offer best practice tips for those wishing to enter this year.

We have also invited Digital Engineering expert Pouyan Aski to join us. Pouyan is a Chartered Electrical Engineer who works on major multidisciplinary design projects including data centres, aviation facilities and commercial buildings. He is also a qualified Lawyer.

He will share some inspiring ways AI is already being used in building services design and discuss where some of the opportunities and challenges lie for our industry going forward.

More Awards

The awards programme expanded this year, with two new categories added. We asked Phil Senn, CIBSE ANZ Immediate Past Chair, why the change?

"Since the inception of the Young Engineers Awards, we have exclusively recognised our new engineering cohorts. The quality of these new engineers would not be where it is without strong mentoring and training programs. In acknowledgement of this, we are excited about the introduction of two new categories to our 2024 Young Engineers Awards: The Graduate Development Programme of the Year and Young Engineer Champion of the Year will recognise the organisations and individuals developing the engineering leaders of tomorrow." – Phil Senn, CIBSE ANZ Immediate Past Chair

WSce has joined the growing number of awards supporters this year to sponsor the Graduate Training Programme of the Year.

Paul Angus, National Head of Strategy & Growth at WSce, has articulated that,
"This initiative aligns perfectly with WSce's values and goals for education, talent development, and leadership investment. It's a commendable way to demonstrate dedication to nurturing future leaders and promoting excellence in graduate education."
