Update on Professional Engineer Registration Schemes in Australia

News
26 Apr 21

As an institution that already assesses the experience and qualifications of building services engineers, CIBSE lodged an application in 2020 to the Board of Professional Engineers Queensland (BPEQ) to become an assessing entity for the scheme there. CIBSE’s application is still under assessment and we will keep members informed of any developments.

In New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, CIBSE is providing consultation to assist with the development of new registration schemes that will affect practising engineers.

In New South Wales and Victoria, these schemes will begin to come into effect on 1 July 2021. In NSW, changes will only apply to class 2 buildings only initially. It is important for all engineers to be aware of the latest opportunities to provide consultation and understand their obligations in the jurisdictions in which they practice.
