CIBSE has announced the launch of a brand-new Special Interest Group aimed at addressing critical issues surrounding workplace ventilation. The group will offer a collaborative platform for industry professionals to drive advancements in ventilation practices. The Workplace Exhaust Ventilation Group (WEVG) builds on the foundation laid by the Institute of Local Exhaust Ventilation Engineers (ILEVE) as part of CIBSE's ongoing commitment to promoting air quality and ventilation in workplaces.

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) has long been a focal point in the building services sector, with concerns about airborne contaminants posing serious health risks to workers. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), thousands of individuals in Great Britain suffer from lung diseases or asthma due to exposure to harmful substances at work.

Established in 2011, ILEVE has been instrumental in raising awareness about the importance of effective ventilation systems. However, following a comprehensive strategic review overseen by the CIBSE Board, the decision was made to transition ILEVE to a dormant status and introduce the Workplace Exhaust Ventilation Group to extend CIBSE’s impact in this crucial area.

The Workplace Exhaust Ventilation Group (WEVG) will serve as a platform for both CIBSE members and the wider industry to collaborate, share technical expertise and address LEV challenges affecting the building services sector. The group aims to foster innovation, facilitate knowledge exchange and drive advancements in workplace ventilation practices.

WEVG will actively engage with industry stakeholders, including the HSE, to develop and support initiatives that promote safer and healthier working environments. The group will champion key initiatives and share insights to benefit CIBSE members and the wider community.
