Speaker's Profile

Andy Sneyd was elected president of the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) in July 2014, and also represents the interests of the UK’s major contractors on the B&ES Council. A chartered engineer and a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers with a Master of Science degree in building services engineering, he has over 25 years’ experience of the sector. Now head of design for national contractor Crown House Technologies, he manages  the design and engineering aspects of mechanical, electrical and plumbing projects worth £300m per annum and controls a design budget of more than £20m. Having worked in engineering consultancy and product manufacturing as well as contracting, he has a profound understanding of a range of professional cultures, along with an ability to build and maintain complex stakeholder relationships. Recognised by his employer – a subsidiary of the multidisciplinary Laing O’Rourke construction group – as an effective leader of strategic change, his achievements is his current post include:

  • The development of the Crown House Professional Development Scheme, the first of its kind in the UK gain academic accreditation;
  • The creation of Crown House TV, a knowledge sharing and information broadcasting portal that provides structured continuous professional development for engineers and designers.
  • Invention of the Total environmental hydraulic system and the LOR kinetic energy recovery free-cooling system for use in the commercial, high-rise, schools and healthcare sectors.

Andy Sneyd describes his current focus as “driving transformational change across the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and manufacturing aspects of Laing O’Rourke’s exemplar projects”.
