Session 1: The Latest Climate Science and the Urgency for Action

Tuesday, 30 July
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM AEST

Our series begins with an in-depth analysis of the current state of the environment, focusing on the implications of rising global temperatures and the urgency of achieving net zero emissions. This session will set the context for our collective goal of combating climate change and underscore the necessity of global awareness and action. Industry expert journalist, Tina Perinotto will chair day 1. She brings together a wealth of knowledge from her extensive career spanning more than 20 years. With Tina onboard, no stone will be left unturned when we bring both our speakers to the virtual stage for a riveting panel discussion.

Day 1 confirmed panellists

Bruce Precious of Six Capitals Consulting will delve into the often misunderstood but crucial components of emission reductions, particularly scope 3 emissions. He will discuss why aiming for zero in these areas is essential and how we can drive this transformation.

Philip Oldfield of UNSW will explore the paradox of building for societal benefits while managing environmental impacts. With the need to construct around 96,000 new affordable homes daily to meet global demands, he will discuss the significant environmental challenges this poses. His presentation will cover the trade-offs and decisions required to achieve necessary growth without exceeding our carbon budget. Focusing on embodied carbon, Philip will present studies and methods to measure and mitigate these impacts.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from industry experts and connect with fellow professionals. Early bird tickets are available until 18 June. Act fast to take advantage of the discounted rates!

The series is run virtually as 5 x 2 hour sessions each Tuesday over 5 weeks.
12pm - 2pm AEST, from Tuesday 30 July 2024 - Tuesday 27 August 2024.
