The UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UKNZCBS) has extended the window in which buildings can be verified through its PC-on-Track process.

PC-on-Track verification is normally undertaken within six months of Practical Completion and provides confirmation that a building is on track to align with net zero carbon requirements once it is in use.

For a limited time, the verification process is now available for works completed between 1 March 2025 and 31 March 2026.

The extension has been introduced to improve accessibility for buildings that were completed before Version 1 of the UKNZCBS was published, enabling more projects to demonstrate alignment with the Standard.

Registration deadline

Building owners and project teams wishing to take advantage of the extended eligibility window must register their building by 23 December 2026.

As there can be a lead time between submitting a registration application and completing the registration process, UKNZCBS is encouraging interested parties to begin the process as soon as possible.

The change forms part of a number of planned updates to the UKNZCBS. A new Planned Updates page has been launched on the UKNZCBS website, providing further information on this and other upcoming changes to the Standard.

The UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard was developed through collaboration between CIBSE, Better Buildings Partnership (BBP), BRE, Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), LETI, RIBA, RICS and UK Green Building Council (UKGBC).

The free-to-access technical standard provides a clear and consistent methodology for defining and achieving net zero carbon in the built environment.
