About Us

Welcome to the CIBSE Canada Group, established in September 2011.  Although a relatively new regional group, CIBSE Canada has the same purpose as the more established regions.

  • To provide a focal point for CIBSE members and like-minded professionals to network in Canada.
  • To organise technical seminars to facilitate CPD & provide a forum for technical advancement.
  • To establish Building Services Engineering as a recognised and respected field of Professional Engineering.
  • To provide a first-contact source of information and support for incoming members (and members thinking about moving to Canada).

CIBSE CanadaIn Canada building services engineering is not currently recognised as an independent engineering discipline; this leads to significant challenges in registration as a professional engineer. The Group is currently reaching out to local engineering regulatory bodies, such as Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO), to encourage the industry to formally recognise Building Services, with the ultimate goal being to enable members to effectively engage in the complete process of delivering energy efficient buildings across Canada.

Our Committee

The CIBSE Canada Group is headed by a small committee of dedicated volunteers:

Chair - Malcolm Wallace
Academic Liaison - Dermot McMorrow
Regulatory Liaison - Dave Clark
Communications Manager - Brian Smith
Committee Members - Henry Wing & Mohammadreza Nahi

Canada Group Meetings

At present, meetings are held in Toronto but there are plans to add groups across Canada, ultimately following the Australia/New Zealand model. The Group meets bi-monthly on the last Thursday of the month, with a mix of technical presentations and informal networking.

For incoming members to Canada - or members considering the move - our meetings provide a unique resource to help acclimatise to the Canadian construction sector. For existing members, they are a forum to continue CPD (not yet widespread in Canada), to keep abreast of technical developments, and simply to socialise in a relaxed and friendly environment.

For other area events, more information or if you are interested in contributing to the committee, contact our Country Representative, Malcolm Wallace at [email protected]
