Project of the Year - International

Interested in sponsoring this category?

This Award recognises the international project (new or refurbished) that most effectively demonstrates achievement of high levels of user satisfaction and comfort and outstanding measured building performance, energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

Who should enter

Architects, clients, consultants, facilities managers, building services engineers, contractors, quantity surveyors, property owners, building occupiers, project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers.

Entries in this category must be from outside the United Kingdom and projects must have been completed during the period 1 June 2015- 31 August 2017. Entries may be submitted by any or all members (together) of the project team and should be accompanied by a full year of operational data.

Judging criteria

Successful entries will give details of as many of the following elements of the project as possible:

Synopsis of the project and its building performance objectives, focusing on low carbon, energy efficiency and the health and wellbeing of occupants.

One year’s evidence of measured building performance and energy use data.

Challenges, objectives or constraints and the design solutions adopted.

The building's energy use for the year.

CIBSE benchmark or other relevant benchmark.

Specific elements of excellence and innovation. Possible areas could include the MEP systems, facades, energy efficiency and management, carbon reduction measures and innovative process or collaboration models.

Specific energy efficiency aspects of the project, such as energy metering, monitoring and targeting, use of recycled/recyclable materials and other low carbon features.

Costs and expected savings associated with these measures and anticipated payback periods.

Description of commissioning, handover and soft landings processes, and how they contributed to achieving the designer’s intended building performance.

Collaboration between members of the project team that has contributed to improved performance.

Any environmental or energy assessment, or other third party evaluations.

User feedback on the building and satisfaction with the measures adopted.

Evidence of costs and expected savings associated with these measures as well as anticipated payback periods.

The Building Performance Awards seek to recognise outstanding, measured performance. Winning entries provide clear evidence of how the building performs in use. This includes metered energy data and any detailed assessment of the energy performance, such as a TM22 energy analysis, or an international equivalent rating.
