2025 Awards Categories

The SFE Façade 2025 Design and Engineering Awards are split across 6 categories. Each category welcomes both UK and International entries, recognising and celebrating excellence in façade engineering domestically and abroad.

This category is for recognition of smaller envelope interventions such as, but not limited to, a bridge, canopy, extension or sculpture demonstrating façade excellence. Projects shall be <400m2 in surface area.

All entries must demonstrate excellence in technical design and/or research that has made a significant contribution to the discipline of façade engineering. Any façade contract practically completed between the two-year period of 1 January 2023 - 31 December 2024 can enter. This category recognises the work and dedication of the full project team and can be entered by any or all members of that team. Please coordinate to avoid duplication of entries and provide the name of the other Company/Companies you are submitting on behalf of in the relevant section. 

This category is for the UK and International Special Structures Project Award. However, your entry will also be considered for the Innovation and Sustainability Award whereby the entries scoring highest in Innovation/and or Sustainability will be shortlisted.

This category is for the UK and International Refurbishment Project Award. However, your entry will also be considered for the Innovation and Sustainability Award whereby the entries scoring highest in Innovation and/or Sustainability will be shortlisted.

All entries must demonstrate excellence in technical design and/or research that has made a significant contribution to the discipline of façade engineering. Any façade contract practically complete between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2024 can enter. This category recognises the work and dedication of the full project team and can be entered by any or all members of that team.

This category is for the UK and International New Build Project Award. However, your entry will also be considered for the Innovation and Sustainability Award whereby the entries scoring highest in Innovation and/or Sustainability will be shortlisted.

This award recognises and celebrates a digital innovation that has made a significant contribution to the façade industry, either in the UK or internationally. This may be a piece of software, a project process or other innovation that shows ground-breaking thought. It can be a piece of software that is used exclusively within the company or available to external parties.

  • Entries in this category are welcome from UK-based or international innovations.
  • Entries should be based on a digital innovation launched before 31 December 2024.
  • Please coordinate to avoid duplication of entries and provide the name of the other Company/Companies you are submitting on behalf of in the relevant section of the form.

This category recognises the next generation of façade engineers who have more than two and less than five years of related* experience, as of the date of the Awards, 5 November 2025. The judges will be assessing the individual's contributions to the industry and their organisation. The application should give examples of the impact the individual has had on their key project/s from performance, innovation, collaboration, quality and client satisfaction perspectives. the application should describe how the individual has advanced their knowledge across the range of façade design considerations.

*Related experience consists of experience within the building envelope industry, such as architecture and engineering.

Your entry will be scored on:

  1. Understanding of the holistic scope of a façade engineer
  2. Impact in the Industry/your company
  3. Expertise, especially your practical application of your expertise in built solutions.

A shortlist will be selected and the final round will consist of short interviews on the same theme of questions within the entry form.

Façade Product of the Year Award aims to recognise and celebrate originality and ingenuity of a product introduced in the façade industry in the last three years (January 2022 - December 2024) that solves a major problem or addresses a key issue. The product could be a material, component, hardware, or an equipment but essentially is associated with façade design and engineering.

We will be evaluating the entry for its contribution to innovation and ability to meet the current day demands such as modularity, low embodied carbon, ease of handling and installation, robust testing and certification, improving a said performance (entrant to define) and addressing the service life and maintenance issues. The entrant should indicate the evolution of the product to show the progression from concept to manufacturing. Submissions in these categories must be available to market by January 1, 2024 to qualify. Each question is scored and any incomplete questions will not attract a score.

Other 2025 Awards

These awards will be compiled of the top scores from the entry forms, masters dissertation and your nomination.

Included in the entry forms include questions specifically tailored to reward sustainability in façade engineering.

Successful entries will be shortlisted upon the judges discretion.

This category will judge projects on the fabric performance, and innovative approaches to the environmental design whilst promoting the health and well-being of occupants.

This award recognises and rewards someone who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the Façade Engineering industry.

This award is awarded to the individual who received the top scoring dissertation at the UWE MSc for Façade Engineering.
