Sustainable Illumination

Based on the three pillars of sustainability (planet, people, profit), we dissect the different phases in a life of a luminaire (design, construction, operation and disposal) before summarising the latest methodology of assessing the total environmental impact of a lighting solution and its compatibility with a circular economy. Les is part of the SLL executive committee and was part of the consultation team for the creation of the CIBSE TM65 and TM66, which provide an assessment methodology for both the circularity and embodied carbon of luminaires.
