Join CIBSE and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for an interactive online workshop, bringing together experts from academia and industry to discuss and gather insights into the most pressing technical evidence gaps and research needs in the built environment. The primary focus will be on energy and achieving net zero, with a forward-looking approach that considers both medium-term priorities (5-10 years) and the 2050 horizon.

Key Objectives:

  • Identify critical research needs related to energy and net zero in the built environment.
  • Explore evidence gaps across a range of topics, including building efficiency, low carbon heating and cooling, building performance, and whole-life carbon impacts.

Event Scope:

  • Topics cover all aspects of the built environment, including both domestic and non-domestic buildings (excluding industrial processes).
  • While the primary focus is on energy security and net zero, discussions may also explore related issues such as adaptation, health, and social research.
  • We welcome cross-disciplinary insights, including technical, social, and skills-based perspectives.

Workshop leads:

  • Oliver Sutton, DESNZ
  • Graeme Maidment, DESNZ
  • Charalampos Michalakakis, DESNZ
  • Roger Littlewood, DESNZ
  • Melanie Jans-Singh, DESNZ
  • Anastasia Mylona, CIBSE Technical Director
  • Zoe De Grussa, CIBSE Research Manager
