This interactive and practical workshop supports engineers to explore how developing their self awareness can improve their leadership performance and enrich the quality of professional practice. Leading to improved communication, collaboration and overall effectiveness in their roles.

The course covers:

The definition of self awareness and importance of developing self awareness as a leader and the concept of our "inner game". We would the concept of growth mindset (Carole Dweck) and neuroplasticity.

We would introduce a range of self assessment tools and exercises - including a strengths profile (which would be sent out to delegates to completed in advance), communication preferences, professional motivations, values, and the wheel of intersectionality. The results of these would be shared in paired listening exercises.   Goleman's leadership styles would be introduced, with delegates encouraged to self reflect and reflect as a group on the impact of different leadership styles and their level of appropriateness in a range of scenarios.

The workshop would also introduce the link between self awareness and emotional intelligence and its impact on leadership effectiveness.

Self management tools and techniques. How to make time for reflective practice as a leader (and tools to help), the benefit of mindfulness for self awareness and leadership impact (and tools to help).

The course would then move onto applying these skills in specific contexts. Communicating important messages, providing great feedback and dealing with challenging situations.
