Society of Façade Engineering AGM 2020: Tuesday the 22nd of September.
About this Event
The Annual General Meeting of the Society of Façade Engineering will be held on Tuesday 22nd September between 17:00 and 18:30 online via Microsoft Teams.
The AGM will be followed by a technical presentation from Richard Willetts, Forterra Ltd - Brick Slips Unstacked
Brick slip facades have been in existence for at least twenty years but as a niche façade type few specifiers have an extensive working knowledge of them. Moreover, the vast number of systems available and their wide-ranging performance, coupled with the systems’ varied strengths and weaknesses make choosing the right system for a given project very challenging.
Richard Willetts will present his MSc dissertation in which he unravels the complexities of brick slip specifications whilst taking into account all primary and secondary performance characteristics including hygrothermal and dynamic condensation risk analysis whilst also considering ever-changing regulatory requirements in relation to fire. He will discuss the unique tool he developed incorporating a unique scoring system, defined for each performance metric, allowing type-sets or individual systems to be compared on each measure. When combined, the tool provides a holistic, “at-a-glance”, guide to façade system strengths and weaknesses in the form of radar diagrams. Richard’s tool allows the most suitable applications for each type-set to be determined and then compared to any systems under consideration for specification.
