The presentations provided current engineering students with the opportunity to learn more about façade engineering, covering typical constructions and a number of key design aspects such as structural design, thermal performance, acoustics, and fire, and how these impact façade design.
Simon commented that “the SFE presentations are a great opportunity to increase the awareness of façade engineering amongst current university students and inspire interest. Despite the recent growth of the industry, there are still relatively few engineering-based university courses, particularly in the UK, that touch on specialist disciplines such as façade engineering. These voluntary presentations, delivered on behalf of the SFE, are a great way to give back to the industry.”
The Society is keen to arrange more talks across the UK – if you have any contacts at other universities that you think may benefit from such presentations, please do pass these on by reaching out to [email protected] FAO Simon Bate.
