CIBSE, in collaboration with the Building Performance Network and Innovate UK’s Net Zero Heat programme, is supporting a series of workshops under the title "Retrofit Revisit – Building Performance Evaluation".

These events will focus on the evaluation of 10 dwellings that underwent energy efficiency retrofits a decade ago. The project has been funded by Innovate UK and Historic England and has been led by CIBSE and Studio PDP. The upcoming workshops will take place in Salford on Wednesday, 9 October 2024, and in Bristol on Thursday, 28 November 2024.

CIBSE's commitment to building performance evaluation

Following the completion of the Retrofit Revisit project, CIBSE has been actively disseminating the project’s findings to industry professionals. The workshops are organised by the Building Performance Network and provide a valuable platform for sharing insights into the building performance evaluation (BPE) approaches that informed the project’s results. These approaches include planning, techniques, and technologies used to assess the long-term impacts of the retrofit measures implemented 10 years ago.

The workshops will feature presentations from leading experts in building performance evaluation, including CIBSE’s Head of Net Zero Policy, Julie Godefroy, and Studio PDP’s Marion Baeli. Julie will present an overview of the Retrofit Revisit project, focusing on the nature of the 10 retrofitted dwellings and the specific evaluation techniques used to measure and monitor performance. Additionally, the British Standard for in-use BPE (BS 40101) and rapid techniques used as part of the testing for the 10 projects will be discussed.

Who should attend?

The workshops are open to professionals across the industry with an interest in retrofit and building performance evaluation, including housing associations, local authorities, architects, designers, engineers, and retrofit specialists. These events provide an excellent opportunity to gain insights into how building performance evaluation can enhance general practice and specific projects.

Participants will also have the opportunity to tour Energy Houses after lunch as part of the Salford workshop.

Workshop details:
