It is with great sadness that CIBSE reports the passing of Haris Moraitis, champion of sustainable design in the built environment, CIBSE Fellow, committee member and friend.
As an active committee member in NSW, Haris arranged and hosted for many engaging events for the chapter, including collaborations with other institutions and organisations, as well as introducing a variety of speakers and knowledge to members.
These past few years he helped out on CIBSE ANZ’s regional panels, bringing a diverse range of speakers, sponsors, presenters and judges to our Annual Seminar and Awards functions.
He developed his wealth of experience working across the globe. Working for Jacobs, Haris delivered on some of the world’s largest sustainable precincts including the Qatar Stadium Precinct for FIFA World Cup and Expo 2020 in Dubai between 2014-2017.
Returning to Australia in 2017 he continued his campaign for sustainable design working at Umow Lai and then HKA whilst volunteering for a number of institutions close to his heart, including GBCA, Living Future Institute and of course CIBSE.
His passing is a massive loss, not just because of how hard he worked at bringing people together but because he had a way of making things feel brighter, projects lighter, and bringing a smile to the faces of those whose path he crossed.
Some of our committee members shared their sentiments:
Haris was a good friend, colleague and was fantastic fun to be around, always made me smile with his cheeky grin and quirky sense of humour. He will be sorely missed indeed. – Paul Angus
He was an excellent ESD consultant and a wonderful person. RIP Haris – Jeff Robinson
Such a pleasure knowing and working with Haris back when I started my career. His happy face will be missed. RIP. – Sian Willmott
