The Passivhaus Trust has published a new guidance note offering a detailed overview of the key considerations when designing and specifying air-to-water heat pump systems. Aimed at designers in the early stages of project planning, the guidance outlines design decisions that can have a significant impact on energy performance.
The guidance covers essential topics such as flow temperatures, system controls, heat pump and emitter sizing, distribution losses, and input into the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP). It includes both straightforward elements and more complex issues that may be overlooked, even by experienced services engineers. This guidance is applicable to a wide range of projects, regardless of their building energy standards.
CIBSE has reviewed and endorsed this guidance, affirming its relevance and importance to the industry.
In addition, a webinar titled How to Build a Passivhaus: Heat Pumps in New Builds will take place on 20 November 2024, from 13:00 to 14:30. The session is designed to help designers make informed decisions about air-to-water heat pumps in the early design stages, addressing both common oversights and more complex considerations that can enhance building performance across different energy standards.
