CIBSE’s new head office in Farringdon has been designed with its people in mind, ensuring a supportive and inclusive working environment for all. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to introduce the Take A Minute room - a dedicated soundproof private space for staff who may need a quiet moment during the day.
The Take A Minute room is available for a range of needs, including prayer, nursing mothers, anyone feeling unwell, or simply those who need a quiet space to pause and reset. This initiative reflects CIBSE’s commitment to fostering a workplace that prioritises the wellbeing of its people - recognising that our workforce is at the heart of what makes CIBSE the fastest-growing professional engineering institution.
Ruth Carter, CIBSE’s CEO, said: “At CIBSE, our people are our greatest strength, and we are committed to creating an environment where they feel valued and supported. The Take A Minute Room is one of the many ways we are ensuring that everyone at CIBSE has access to the space and resources they need to thrive.”

CIBSE staff have found the room to be a valuable space. One team member from CIBSE’s finance department shared: “I have been using the Take A Minute room, mostly for prayers and meditation. I find the room really helpful and useful, because I normally need that quiet space during fasting periods and for prayers generally when I am working in the office.” Another member of staff from CIBSE’s membership team said: “The Take A Minute room is a little oasis of calm at our new bustling HQ at Saffron Hill. Sometimes you need a reset and it’s a great place to go and take a few minutes to centre yourself before returning to the day. Those few minutes can really help reset and refocus.”
