Raymond Cousins, a distinguished figure in the engineering community, sadly passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of contributions to both the profession and the organisations he served.
Raymond was a Fellow of both the Institution of Civil Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers, further underscoring his commitment to professional excellence. As a Partner at Cyril Blumfield & Partners, he made meaningful contributions to key engineering projects and was known for his mentorship of younger engineers.
He was a dedicated member of The Worshipful Company of Engineers, where he held the role of Assistant Clerk from its founding in November 1983 until April 1998, and later became the Master Engineer in 2002.
A Londoner, Raymond was well known and respected in the City. In addition to his significant work with the Engineers’ Company, he was also deeply involved with the Woolmens’ Company, having been its Clerk from 1970 to 1975, and later becoming its Master in 1993, demonstrating his versatility and leadership within multiple professional organisations.
Raymond’s legacy is particularly poignant due to his influence on his daughter, Fiona Cousins – current CIBSE President, who has continued his work in the engineering world. His work was not just a career but a lifelong passion for supporting and uplifting the engineering profession. Raymond’s passing leaves a void in both the engineering community and in the hearts of those who knew him.
As CIBSE expresses its condolences, we recognise Raymond’s many contributions, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of engineers.
