CIBSE is proud to announce its active participation in an important UK-China workshop on Decarbonisation and Adaptation Policy for Buildings and Infrastructure, taking place on 11-12 January 2025 in Chongqing, China. The workshop is funded by the British Embassy in Beijing and the SuDBE Programme of Chongqing University and aims to address some of the most pressing challenges in the field of decarbonisation and climate resilience.

This collaborative initiative brings together UK and Chinese industry experts, policymakers, government officials and academics to discuss current policies within the sectors of buildings and infrastructure. Through these discussions, the workshop seeks to develop a more holistic understanding of how decarbonisation strategies can be improved by looking at both areas in tandem. The main output of the workshop will be a document proposing a refined approach to decarbonisation policy, as well as a roadmap outlining urgent research needs to support these strategies.

CIBSE’s role in shaping decarbonisation and climate resilience policies

As part of the UK delegation, CIBSE is honoured to be represented by two of its leading experts:

  • Dr Anastasia Mylona, CIBSE's Technical Director
  • Dr Julie Godefroy, CIBSE's Head of Net Zero Policy

Both will work alongside Chinese academics and government officials to exchange knowledge, expertise and insights on policies to drive decarbonisation and adaptation in the built environment. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of climate resilience and decarbonisation in both the UK and China.

Through its involvement, CIBSE is actively contributing to policy development in a crucial global context - emphasising the importance of international collaboration in achieving net-zero goals and improving the resilience of our built environments in the face of climate change.

A global effort to address climate challenges

The partnership between the UK and China on this initiative reflects the growing recognition of the need for international collaboration in addressing climate challenges. With the support of the British Embassy and the expertise of world-class academics and policymakers, the workshop provides an essential platform to strengthen ties between the two countries and promote the exchange of best practices in decarbonisation and climate resilience.

CIBSE’s ongoing involvement in shaping policy for a sustainable, net-zero future is a key part of the institution’s mission to lead and support the built environment in responding to the climate crisis.
