CIBSE is proud to be a project partner in the National Hub on Net Zero, Health and Extreme Heat (HEARTH), a £7.4 million initiative funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

HEARTH will explore how the transition to net zero can improve health outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations, by tackling the risks of extreme heat. The research will focus on homes, care facilities, hospitals and prisons, developing practical solutions that align public health with climate goals.

Through community engagement, site visits and data collection, HEARTH aims to bridge evidence gaps and co-develop interventions that reduce reliance on energy-intensive cooling, enhance sustainable urban planning, and drive policy change. By ensuring that net zero and climate resilience work together, the project will contribute to creating healthier, more equitable living environments for all.

As a project partner, CIBSE will bring its expertise in building performance and climate-responsive design to support this vital research and help translate findings into actionable strategies for the built environment.
