From April 2024 the new Building Safety Regulator will operate a new statutory register for all Building Control professionals. Private sector building control organisations and local authority bodies in England will by law have to register and to do that they will have to meet a new set of competence requirements.
Registration will open in October 2023, coming fully into force from April 2024. The HSE is consulting on the professional competence framework that all building control professionals will be required to meet.
They are seeking the views of the wider industry, especially those who use building control services, on the framework. From a building services perspective, there are two pages setting out the HSE’s view of the overall competence statement for building services, on pages 22-23 of the draft.
Whilst we are welcome to comment on the whole draft, these two pages are particularly relevant and we will offer comments on them. If you think that aspects of building inspector competence need to be addressed, this is the chance to contribute to the CIBSE response.
