The Australian Government Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources is conducting a short survey of technical experts to inform potential updates to the National Construction Code for commercial buildings.
This survey will be open until 8 November 2021.
The Department is seeking your industry knowledge and experience of using verification method JV3 in the National Construction Code (Volume 1).
Under Section J (Energy efficiency) of NCC2019 (Volume 1) for commercial buildings, verification using a reference building allows energy efficiency requirements to be offset with renewable energy used onsite.
The Trajectory for Low Energy Buildings recommends triennial updates to the NCC, the next of which is expected to be in 2025 for commercial buildings. Delta Q Pty Ltd and Strategy.Policy.Research have been engaged to update 2018 modelling reported in “Achieving Low Energy Commercial Buildings” in preparation for the proposed NCC 2025 update.
This project involves updating modelling and cost benefit analyses and considering different ways of incorporating on-site renewables in the NCC. Information on how the existing renewable energy provision is used, gathered through this survey, will inform the broader investigation.
The Department is especially interested in information from building modellers, installation technicians, designers, facilities managers, and building owners. The information collected through this survey will be treated in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988, it will be de-identified and used only by parties managing the NCC2025 project.
