CIBSE Building Simulation Awards

Building Simulation Awards 2019

CIBSE BSG is pleased to open entries for the Building Simulation Awards 2019. The shortlisted presentations and award ceremony will be held at the CIBSE Build2Perform event in November 2019 at the London Olympia. There is a main prize of £1,000 and additional prizes for runners up and international entries.
All entries are peer-reviewed by a panel of experts from the CIBSE Building Simulation Group, who will then select six entries for the live presentations and judging at Build2Perform. Round 1 entry form can be found here
Deadline for submission is Monday 7th October 2019.

The CIBSE Building Simulation Awards have 7 main categories for entries:

  • Energy
  • Thermal Environment
  • Ventilation
  • Lighting
  • Plant and Renewable Energy Systems
  • Acoustic
  • Urban and Micro Climate

Entrants should pick the category which best describes the main simulation and modelling aspect of their project. We encourage a diverse approach to your projects and the way you select and apply software and other tools for problem solving. You are encouraged to use multiple software tools and demonstrate a high level understanding of why simulation and modelling was important on this project. Previous winners demonstrated a good mix of tools and techniques applied on their projects along with supporting material and graphics.

Your projects can be broad, for example, applying multiple software simulation tools on one project or, delve deeper into one aspect of the project by applying an advanced usage of software tools and methodologies. We will look for how the learning and knowledge in your project can be applied in wider industry and by other users to collectively raise the skill and knowledge in our industry.

The Building Simulation Group (BSG) of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), supports and encourages the application of advanced building simulation tools for building and system design. It has an aim to drive best practices in building simulation primarily through organizing events, was previously heavily involved in the AM11 publication and is currently examining opportunities for certification in this field. In 2012 the Group initiated an annual prize open to postgraduate students from UK and overseas universities who undertake a research project at Master’s level or equivalent which included a major element involving the application of building simulation tools in their research. In 2018 the prize event format has been changed to focus upon the use of building simulation in industry projects in order to encourage high end usage, R&D and innovation in project-applied building simulation techniques.
