The Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme (1998 to 2003) was a collaboration between the Department for the Environment (DfE) and various industry, government and research partners to create innovation, training and benchmarking projects that would demonstrate energy savings made possible by building capacity in new plants and/or processes.
Two particularly successful approaches were Big Energy Projects (BEP) and Best Practice People & Processes (BPPP), which were implemented in seven industry sectors: baking, beverage and packaging, dairy, pulp and paper, resource processing, supermarkets and wine.
Best practice information programmes on electric motors, fleet management, commercial buildings, hotels and energy performance contracting were also delivered in partnership with industry associations and other government agencies.
- While the programme has now ended, various information packages, methodologies and case studies are available here.
