White Paper: The urban emergency
Cities are critical for solving problems associated with global climate change. They currently cover less than 1% of global land surface area whilst accounting for 70-80% of CO2 emissions associated with energy consumption. Not only are cities a primary driver of climate change but they are often located in areas where risks are greatest from changes in the intensity and frequency of climate events.
