What are electrical services?

Electrical services in a building design refer to the various systems and components that provide electricity and related functions to ensure the building operates safely and efficiently.

These services include

  • the main power supply, which brings electricity from the grid into the building, and
  • the distribution system, which delivers power to different areas through a network of cables and circuit breakers.

Power outlets are strategically placed throughout the building to supply electricity for various devices and equipment.

Additionally, electrical services encompass safety mechanisms like fuses and residual current devices (RCDs) to prevent electrical fires and shocks.

Modern buildings also integrate communication and data networks, supporting internet and telephone connections. Specialised systems, such as those for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), as well as security systems like CCTV and alarm systems, are also powered and controlled through the building's electrical infrastructure. Overall, these services are essential for the functionality, safety, and comfort of the building's occupants.
