Associate Members of the Society can use the designatory letters AMSLL.
Applicants must meet one of the following sets of education, training and experience criteria, or their equivalent:
Education + 2 year period of relevant experience in light and lighting, and a Professional Review Statement.
- Hold a 1st degree, Master’s degree or doctorate degree in lighting (courses to be assessed individually for doctorate and overseas qualifications – please provide evidence)
- Has achieved a pass in 3 LIA Advanced Certificate modules
- Has achieved a pass in the LET Diploma
Membership of other organisations + 2 year period of relevant experience in light and lighting, and a Professional Review Statement.
- Has obtained CEng status
- Is a registered architect
Education + 3 year period of relevant experience in light and lighting, and a Professional Review Statement.
- Has achieved a pass in 2 LIA Advanced Certificate modules
5 year period of relevant experience in light and lighting, and a Professional Review Statement.
- Has relevant experience in light and lighting over a period of 5 years and has attained a position demonstrating a level or proven competence in light and lighting and has successfully completed a professional review statement.
NOTE: The period of relevant experience in light and lighting may be aggregated over a period, eg five years @ 50% plus three years @ 67% plus half a year @ 100% aggregates to five years full time – please show the percentage of lighting work on the application form where relevant.
Applicants must hold, as minimum CIBSE Affiliate membership. Applications must be made online, and the following information and documents will be required when submitting your application.

2. Sponsors Name and Email address. NB The sponsor must be:
- An Associated Member, Member or Fellow of SLL,
- An Associated Member, Member or Fellow of CIBSE.
- Registered CEng with any Engineering Council nominated institution,
- Professionally registered within the construction industry (CIOB, RICS, RIBA), or
- Employer.
NB A direct family member or a member of CIBSE/SLL staff cannot sponsor the application.

3. Qualification Certificates and transcripts in English (upload document(s)), also member certificates from other Professional Institutions.
4. CV – including any relevant education, employment details including percentage of time working in light and lighting, and specific roles/tasks undertaken (upload document).
5. Professional Review Statement. Approximately two and three A4 pages of typescript
6. Organisation Chart (upload document).
