The SLL has its own classes of membership independent from CIBSE membership classes and provides designatory letters to those who are suitably qualified and experienced in lighting.
- Student Membership - available to full-time and part-time students (apply online)
- Affiliate Membership - open to anyone with an interest in light and lighting (apply online)
- Associate Member (AMSLL) - 2+ years of relevant experience, depending on qualifications (application form)
- Member (MSLL) - 5+ years of relevant experience, depending on qualifications (application form)
- Member (MSLL) applications from the 18 November 2024. All new applicants for MSLL will need to demonstrate that they meet the Engineering Council’s UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC). The new MSLL will adopt UK SPEC competencies:
- A – Knowledge and understanding,
- B – Design and problem solving,
- D - Communication and interpersonal skills and
- E – Personal and professional commitment
- Fellow (FSLL) - Has made a significant contribution to the lighting industry, whilst already holding MSLL (application form)
