An introduction to the SFE Technical Committee

News
12 Dec 24

The Technical Committee consists of twelve members, including representatives from consultancy, contracting, industry, and academia, providing expertise to address challenges in the façade industry. The committee gathers current pertinent issues, offers seed funding, and facilitates research into relevant topics. It also serves as a point of contact for technical expertise requests, which are addressed through a register of expert members within each relevant field. Sub-committees are responsible for staying informed about developments and research in their areas and keeping members aware and involved.

The Technical Committee meets monthly, usually via video conference, and is currently seeking younger members to assist with sub-committee work. Applications should be sent to [email protected].

Below are some of the committee's activities. More information will be shared in the future.

  • The Technical Committee undertakes reviews of relevant draft technical documents and standards, including CWCT Technical Notes and British and European Standards. If there is a particular document you have an issue with, would like to assist in commenting on and have the relevant expertise please do get in touch at [email protected].
  • The Committee has already brought you some technical articles in the CIBSE Journal and hopes to increase the frequency of these going forwards, making the Journal more relevant to our members. If you would like to prepare a technical article for publication, please do get in touch at [email protected].
  • One of the sub-committees is preparing a Standard Scope of Services for Facade Engineering. This has been a long-term task, which we hope to bring to fruition in the near future.
  • We are currently developing a Research sub-committee in order to prepare research applications to the SFE/CIBSE research funds and also to provide Dissertation topics to academic institutions. Members wishing to put forwards topics or get involved should contact us at [email protected].

Additional support:

  • The Technical Committee also holds some specialist technical tools for members to use. These can be accessed through the SFE website page.
  • We review requests for the Funding for Technical Activities which assists in funding members to attend relevant conferences and trade fairs. This is available to all members, but especially younger members who may be less likely to attend.

To improve our visibility and accessibility, we are developing a dedicated web page that will be available soon.
