Dr Roderic Bunn 
Building Performance Analyst & Soft landings Consultant - WME Boom Collective

Dr Roderic Bunn has a track record in researching the performance of non-domestic buildings, from their energy and carbon dioxide emissions to measuring the wellbeing and satisfaction of occupants. Bunn lectures widely on building engineering and on the role of human behaviour in building performance, and advises building owners and building design teams on ways to ensure design ambitions are achieved in reality. He is known for devising and co-authoring the definitive industry guidance on Soft Landings: The Soft Landings Framework (2014). Bunn authored the CIBSE Technical Memorandum TM62:2020 Operational performance: Surveying occupant satisfaction, and co-authored CIBSE guide TM61:2020 Operational performance of Buildings. Bunn co-authored the latest British Council for Offices guidance The Future of UK Office Densities, published on 21 September 2022.

Between 1995-2001 Dr Bunn led the ground-breaking PROBE building performance evaluation research project, instrumental in fabric airtightness standards and energy measurement techniques being included in the UK Building Regulations. He also worked on the Carbon Trust’s Low Carbon Buildings Performance programme (2011), and InnovateUK’s Building Performance Evaluation (2011-2105) and Invest in Innovative Refurbishment (2013-2015) programmes.

Roderic has a Doctorate in Engineering from the Bartlett, University College London, and a Master of Research (MRes) focusing on lighting design, occupant wellbeing, and passive solar design. He is a Silver Medallist of the CIBSE and a recipient of the Carter Bronze Medal. He currently runs the UCL built environment MSc course on Post-Occupancy Evaluation. 

 

Shaun Burgess

Shaun joined Northrop in 2014 as an Electrical Engineer. Since joining, he has expanded his role into Northrop’s Vertical Transport offering, leading this discipline within the Sydney team. Shaun has specific focus on engineering design in the education, residential, senior’s living and commercial sectors, managing and delivering electrical and multi-discipline MEP projects across NSW. He approaches all his projects from the end user’s perspective – working to understand the functional requirements of a space and translating this to the ideal electrical and vertical transport design. Shaun’s philosophy is based around providing this understanding and personal approach to engineering, playing to his strengths of stakeholder engagement and conceptualization across end-user driven sectors. 


Taryn Cornell

Prior to joining the GBCA, Taryn worked for over a decade in interior and architectural design specialising in high-end hospitality and residential work, with many years’ on-site project experience. After graduating from RMIT with a Diploma in Interior design, Taryn has developed a detailed and considered approach to delivery and stakeholder engagement, and has a passion for design outcomes that engage community and promote societal betterment. 

 

Rebecca Fitzgerald 
Sustainability Manager - Investa Property Group
Panel: Day 2, Tuesday 6th September - Dealing with the Past   

Rebecca Fitzgerald (nee Chua) is a Sustainability Manager at Investa. She studied engineering and commerce and is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Australia and CIBSE. Rebecca has over ten years’ experience as a building services consultant within the property team at WSP where she was an associate.

Rebecca has contributed significantly to industry groups including The Property Council of Australia (PCA), the Green Building Council of Australia and CIBSE YEN throughout her career to date. Rebecca is the current chairperson of The PCA NSW Sustainability committee, having been involved for the past six years. She was awarded with The Property Council of Australia’s Future Leader of the Year award in 2018, is a former chairperson of the CIBSE YEN NSW committee and participates/speaks regularly at industry events.

Rebecca considers herself someone who will give anything a go; and as such, has too many hobbies to count easily. These include: cooking, pottery, sewing, home DIY, keeping fit via cross training, running and a little martial arts. She is a mum of twin toddlers and so has found a recent love for Peppa Pig, dinosaurs and visiting the zoo.

 

Carlos Flores
Director - NABERS

Carlos leads the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS), one of Australia's most successful sustainability initiatives. NABERS is a government-run sustainability rating system, which is at the heart of Australia's environmental policy for the building sector.

 

Grace Foo

Grace Foo's core expertise is in all aspects of building energy efficiency and developing strategic energy road maps for your portfolio. Grace is experienced in the full building value lifecycle - identifying measures to reposition your assets through upgrade and optimisation works, project manage implementation works, represent the landlord's interests during tenant fit-out works, manage commissioning works for new developments & deep refurbishments, and manage any portfolio reporting requirements. She builds road maps with short- and long-term action plans for your portfolio of assets to achieve sustainability targets such as Carbon Neutrality, NABERS or for the sake of future-proofing your investment. She is a WellAP, so her advice accounts for health and wellness. 

Bill Grover 
Senior Mechanical Engineer - Cundall

Following completion of his mechanical engineering studies Bill was attracted to consulting engineering because of the mix of people and technical skill sets. Since establishing a solid foundation in building services design and multi-disciplinary project leadership, Bill has followed his interests to increase my focus on sustainability, becoming a Green Star Accredited Professional and improving building performance/emissions through his NABERS accreditation.

 

Lisa Hinde 
Head of Sustainability - Colliers
Day 3 Tuesday 13th September - Current Design Practice 

Lisa is Head of Sustainability at Colliers for the Real Estate Management Services (REMS) team and her key focus is developing long term sustainability, health and wellbeing strategies to support her colleagues and Clients' ambitions. This involves integrated planning and management of new and existing asset performance using industry best practice. She builds strategies by drawing on her extensive experience with sustainability, health and wellbeing tools such as Green Star, the WELL Building standard, Climate Active (net zero / carbon neutral) and Circular Economy principles. Her work is globally recognised as enabling scalable solutions to complex challenges in the built environment.
As well as leading the REMS sustainability team for Australia, Lisa supports Colliers Global ESG committee through her role on the steering committee for Asia Pacific and leading the Environmental pillar regionally. This role supports Colliers long term strategy to develop and execute a robust ESG program including committments to Science Based Targets Initiative and achieving net zero status by 2030.
As a natural collaborator, she has a keen interest in developing practical strategies to assist with a streamlined application of sustainability initiatives, translating executive goals into hands on implementation.

Quentin Jackson
Principal & Sustainability Leader - Aurecon
Day 4, Tuesday 20th September - Modern Construction 

Quentin is Aurecon’s Australian leader for sustainability providing leadership and management to the sustainability team, as well as technical expertise and advice on sustainability projects. He has a passion for working with diverse teams to deliver projects that achieve practical sustainable outcomes without costing the earth (both environmentally and financially). He is involved in shaping the Built and Infrastructure Environment from strategy to construction, to post-occupancy evaluation and asset optimisation. He is frequently involved in constructing sustainability rating tools such as Green Star, ISC and has helped develop standards to create a positive change for our environment.

 

Malin Lindblad
Sustainable Buildings and Precinct Leader for Victoria - Mott MacDonald
Day 3 Tuesday 13th September - Current Design Practice 

With a passion for sustainability and extensive experience in multidisciplinary engineering design coordination and delivery - communicating and coordinating complex design solutions is what gets Malin out of bed every day. Malin enjoys working with clients and stakeholders to ensure our engineering and sustainability solutions aligns with and challenge their wider drivers and ultimate goals be it a new commercial building, a fitout, an educational facility, a future museum or a complex heritage refurbishment.
She has a background in a range of commercial and educational projects - as well as experience in the arts and culture sector. She continuously uses her technical background in combination with her wider project delivery experience to get the best project outcome - continuously challenging the sustainability agenda. Malin has a passion for living and working sustainably, holding both a Green Star and NABERS accreditation. As part of declaring to Engineers Australia ‘Engineers declare’ initiative (https://engineersdeclare.org.au/ ) she aims to challenge herself to further build on this agenda and helping others in the industry to do the same.
Being a female in a male dominated industry with three young girls of her own, it goes without saying that Malin on daily basis try's to create and progress a world where diversity is a plus and equality is a must.


Walter van der Linde
Professional Mechanical Engineer (Pr. Eng) - Aurecon
Day 2, Tuesday 6th September - Dealing with the Past  

Walter is a Chartered Professional Mechanical Engineer - Aurecon, Registered Building Practitioner, and a Certified Passive House Consultant. He has experience in the design of high performing HVAC systems and understands the important role they play in providing high indoor air quality and operating at energy efficient levels to reduce energy consumption. Walter has designed all-electric net zero carbon buildings and is familiar with the key design requirements to successfully achieve energy targets and switch to all electric buildings.

 

Sean Maxwell
ANZ Scheme Manager - ATTMA
Day 4, Tuesday 20th September - Modern Construction 

Sean Maxwell leads the Australian and New Zealand branches of the Air Tightness Testing and Measurement Association. Sean has led dozens of trainings for builders, project teams, and consultants to get a better handle on the practice of building more airtight buildings. Leading hundreds of blower door tests over nearly two decades, his experience in diagnostics lends a valuable perspective to his consulting work which focuses on design reviews.

 

Erik Moore 
Senior Sustainability Manager - AMP Capital
Day 2, Tuesday 6th September - Dealing with the Past

Erik has worked extensively on world leading built environment projects where he is a leader in sustainability strategy.
He loves working with design teams in the creation of engaging environments, where he apply's his broad and detailed understanding of building services and envelope performance design.
Erik has successfully led engineering consultancy teams in Atelier Ten and Cundall, where he nurture's the support and dedication of the staff and where he has a strong work-life ethos and embed an egalitarian, culturally balanced and supportive work environment.

 

Noni Nuriani
Principal Consultant - Kani Quest
Day 5, Tuesday 27th September - In Use 

Noni Nuriani is a Principal Consultant at Kani Quest. She has thirteen years of experience in sustainability consultancy, across commercial, residential, retail, health, industrial, education, data centres and defence sectors. She is passionate about improving existing building's energy performance, as well as achieving the best sustainability outcomes for new buildings. She is a NABERS Accredited professional, a member of the NABERS Independent Design Review Panel (IDR) and the NABERS Steering Committee, a CBD assessor, a Green Star Accredited Professional, and a board member of IBPSA-Australasia (Marketing & Industry). Noni is currently undertaking PhD research at UNSW on minimising energy performance gap in Australia’s commercial building sector.

 

Matthew Sykes 
Associate Principal - Integral Group Australia
Day 1, Tuesday 30th August - End of Life  

Matt is an Associate Principal in Integral Group’s National Sustainability team. He has a career spanning over 16 years and two continents. As Integral’s Australasian Carbon Sector Lead, Matt works with clients to decarbonise buildings, precincts, and organisations.
Matt is passionate about delivering healthy and happy places with the lowest possible whole life carbon impact.

 

Jamie Wallis 
Senior Manager, Market Engagement - Green Building Council of Australia
Day 3, Tuesday 13th September - Current Design Practice 

Jamie is an experienced sustainability and environment professional. He holds Bachelor Degrees in Science and Arts, with Honours in Chinese language and Asian Studies; and a Master’s Degree in Environment from The University of Melbourne. Jamie has experience across a number of sectors, most recently focusing his efforts on sustainability in the built environment. He has worked closely with the property sector, business and government to design and deliver energy efficiency and sustainable design initiatives. Jamie has travelled extensively and has lived, worked and studied in China for extended periods, achieving a high level of fluency in Chinese language.

At the Green Building Council of Australia Jamie is a Senior Manager in the Market Engagement team and is based in Melbourne. Jamie works to engage with new and existing members and Green Star project teams to identify opportunities and promote the growth and uptake of Green Star.
Magali Wardle 

Acting Head of Market Development - NABERS
Day 3, Tuesday 13th September - Current Design Practice

 

Magali is the Head of Market Development at NABERS. She is a skilled professional with over 15 years of experience in Sustainability, Engineering, Project Management and Climate Change. Her work at NABERS is focused on building partnerships to influence the uptake of NABERS ratings. Her role covers a vast portfolio of project teams dedicated to supporting customers in their sustainability journey. This encompasses energy, water and waste efficiency as well as indoor environment quality across several different types of building asset types.

Magali looks after a number of net zero programs using the NABERS pathway that are aimed at streamlining access to public and private capital through avenues such as sustainable finance, green loans and energy savings certificates. She also oversees the support provided to building owners who want to design for performance and build better, more efficient assets for a more sustainable future.

Magali holds two Master’s degrees, one in Chemical Engineering and one in Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems.
