Luminaire Design to the Circular Economy

This CPD covers the need for a Circular Economy and describes an ideal one. Legislation and guides relevant to the lighting industry are outlined. Circular Design principles are examined related to luminaire design, materials, manufacturing and ecosystem. As a coda the Circular Economy is put into a wider environmental impact assessment context.

Luminaires and their environmental impact

This CPD focuses on through-life carbon analyses of products. It shows how using Life Cycle Analyses of alternative product specifications luminaires can be designed for lowest environmental impact

The Direct and Indirect Non Image Forming effects of light. Implications for the Lighting Industry

This CPD covers the psychological and physiological effects on humanity when we live in an age of disconnect between the ancient rhythms inside us and our modern life. The symptoms include restlessness, insomnia, diabetes, obesity and depression. Poor lighting is a one cause and also can be a part of a solution. But what light? What levels, distribution, spectrum and timing? The presentation will cover the latest scientific thinking, recommendations and metrics alongside demonstrations. Finally, drawing together learnings from the foregoing, suggestions are made re. what to look for in a luminaire specification when considering the Non Image Forming effects of light.
