BS 40102-1: New Best Practice for IEQ and the Application of Electrostatic Filters to Achieve High IAQ
This CPD presentation introduces BS 40102-1, the new British Standard focused on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) in non-domestic buildings. Developed in response to growing evidence around the health, wellbeing, and performance impacts of indoor environments, the standard provides a performance-based framework covering air quality, thermal comfort, lighting, and acoustics.
The session will focus specifically on the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) component — highlighting key pollutants such as particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and carbon monoxide (CO). Delegates will gain a clear understanding of how the standard defines acceptable pollutant thresholds and the measurement protocols it recommends.
The presentation will also explore Electrostatic Filtration as a high-performance, low-energy technology for removing airborne contaminants. This includes an overview of how electrostatic systems work, their classification under ISO 16890, and independent research demonstrating their ability to reduce both particulate levels and microbial contaminants — all while reducing pressure drops and energy consumption.
Attendees will leave with a clear grasp of how to interpret and apply BS 40102-1, and how Electrostatic Filtration can support compliance, occupant health, and operational efficiency.
