Airedale International Air Conditioning Ltd

Airedale International Air Conditioning Ltd

F-Gas A short course (approx. 30mins – 1 hour) providing a full introduction to F-Gas legislation, refrigerant phasedowns and the current / future refrigerant landscape within HVAC. Gain an understanding of flammable refrigerants and their application within HVAC systems.

Ecodesign Tier II (Chillers) Airedale’s popular Ecodesign CPD has been updated for 2021, taking into account the move to Tier 2 for Lot 21 products. This presentation focuses on chillers and what to look out for when specifying and installing them in line with EcoDesign Tier II.

HTM 03-01 (2021) A one hour CPD summarising the revisions and offering information for mechanical AHU design, whilst considering the implications, shortcomings and potential value engineering solutions. This course is aimed at consultants and facility management teams, involved the HVAC supply chain.

BS EN 1886:2007 This CPD will assist attendees understand the difference between model box and real unit testing and cover the testing and classification criteria of BS EN 1886:2007, before going into greater detail on mechanical strength, casing and filter bypass leakage, thermal performance, acoustic performance and fire & safety recommendations. This course is aimed at consultants and facility management teams, involved the specification, testing and/ or maintenance of air handling units in public buildings and commercial spaces. Energy Efficient Design Of Air Handling Units It is estimated that heating and powering buildings accounts for 40% of the UK’s total energy usage and with the UK target to achieve net zero by 2050, the need to reduce energy and resource consumption in buildings has to be a priority of anyone involved in the built environment supply chain. Air Handling Units (AHUs) are the largest energy consumer in the ventilation system, so this CPD has been created to help stakeholders understand the main energy efficiency metrics for air handling units, understand the main challenges and solutions for the energy efficient design of air handlers and understand the impact of proper installation, operation and maintenance throughout the equipment lifecycle.

There is a school of thought that, in the data centre arena at least, the chiller has had its day.

Too inflexible, inefficient, restrictive operating limits, high peak power input. All criticisms of chillers that were perhaps justified up until fairly recently. The chiller is certainly a mature technology and in the arena of “marginal gains” when it comes to improvements. But in the power-hungry 24/7/365 data centre world, marginal gains can mean huge energy savings.

Designing a Data Chiller

As supply water temperatures increase, chiller manufacturers like Airedale are constantly looked at how optimising the various variables involved in a cooling system can play to the chiller’s strengths. This CPD looks at this work and how Airedale have evolved the design of the chiller, tailoring it for the data centre environment and putting the technology back in pole position in the face of competition from competing cooling technology

Variable Flow

Most large data centres now operate using chilled water cooling. Much of the improvement focus over the past decade has been on the equipment itself, but the chilled water system as a whole is now under the spotlight.

As data centres get larger and the industry becomes globalised, one of the things we’re seeing is a move to variable primary-only chilled water systems. The challenge with these systems is the robust controls loop protocols to ensure the system delivers resilience and redundancy at the lowest possible energy output. Often a BMS is used to mange the system, but often the level of built-in modification, control and protection of the system that we believe is required is not something that a BMS provider could achieve alone.

This CPD introduces the idea and recommended specification of a dedicated real-time decision making tool delivering required cooling, maintaining redundancy levels, increasing resilience, all at the lowest possible energy outlay and while maintaining the system within the cooling equipment’s stated operating envelopes.

Heat Pump Chillers Part 1: An Introduction

An entry-level CPD aimed at consultant engineers with some mechanical engineering background who want an introduction to the drivers, technologies and specification considerations involved regarding commercial heat pumps.
