Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical (Building Services) Engineer - To £48K Quality of delivery, quality of staff, innovative projects, and a great company culture. These are the founding principles of this multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy based near Liverpool Street. Quality runs deep through the practice, and every project is overseen by a director all the way through the various RIBA stages. They produce quality designs that are low in energy and carbon, are properly coordinated and, actually fit within the space that was allocated by the client. In terms of recruitment, they only employ permanent staff with stable employment histories, as they would prefer to turn work away rather than employing average engineers to just churn out poor quality designs. Innovation exists across everything they do, they analyse every completed project, compare how the building is performing in use, and then use building performance engineering to improve the next project. They also continuously research and invest in new and emerging technologies, in order to make their existing software, processes or templates more efficient. And, they also adopt a bold approach to building design, never shying away from the opportunity of trying something totally new, to solve an issue or overcome a challenge. Recent examples include their use of stone bearing masonry rather than steel, their investment in R&D into the use of advanced phase change materials or their ability to use CLT on larger, complex structures. In terms of culture, the founding partners remain hands on and actively encourage all employees to make suggestions on how things can be improved. They operate an open plan studio environment, with MEP Engineers siting alongside the structural engineers, civil engineers, and BIM staff, which ensures constant collaboration. They have weekly and monthly social activities, and provide all staff with an annual bonus, and an annual salary review and increase. As an Mechanical Engineer, you'll get involved in designing and modelling a variety of low carbon, interesting buildings such as theatres, museums, galleries, schools, castles, cinemas, offices, churches, universities, and data centres. You'll work as part of a friendly, experienced, and supportive team of around 30 engineers on one off projects, typically from concept all the way through to construction. You will attend design team and site meetings, and liaise directly with clients, architects, and specialist external consultants. You will also carry out heating and cooling loads, size plants, ducts, or pipes, use Revit MEP to produce 3D models, and also ensure all projects adhere to CIBSE guidelines, British standards and also promote a circular economy. Requirements At least two years' experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Previous experience working directly with Architects. Comfortable communicating technical terms, to a non-technical audience. Easy to work with, able to work as part of a team.

Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Consultancy) London to £62,000 + c.15% Quarterly Bonus + Package Leading independent Building Consultancy looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer due to continued growth. With the potential of global recession receding, investors are returning. The Global Investment Forecast is reported to rise by 27% in 2025, making a sensible time to consider a move into a Building Consultancy practice. We are looking for a confident individual who can be client-facing (both internally and externally) at an experienced Senior Engineer or Principal/Associate level. Someone who can lead projects and drive delivery of the diverse MEP instructions. One of the remaining independent Building Consultants, they are a business not looking to make a quick buck, they are significantly profitable due to their broader service offering, resulting in a significant annual bonus and quarterly bonus payments at around 15% of your salary. An established business with a national network of offices across the UK. They have an existing M&E team in every UK office, with other locations being explored in line with continued expansion plans. 100% independent, not run by outside investors, zero debt and have cultivated financial growth every year since inception with a dynamic and growing team. The broader nature of the M&E work undertaken within Building Consultancy, attracts high calibre individuals from the M&E sector, unlike traditional consultancies who seem to be struggling to recruit in the most candidate short market the industry has ever encountered. A very different environment to traditional consultancy, with no unmanageable and stressful/unpaid workload resulting in a compromise of quality in delivery. That said, you will work on all RIBA design stages 0-7 ranging from feasibility studies to full detailed design, working across a broad range of sectors within the private and public fields. Great commercial development and learning as you work from the cradle to the grave on projects, personally setting the design brief and making key early-stage design decisions, with a clear understanding from the outset of the commercial drivers from the clients’ perspective. Not working to a feasibility that may not make sense and working through the project to handover. A unique career opportunity, a client-side role that will give you direct access to clients, working on the clients’ behalf as part of the client team, acting as the clients’ representative on projects. The perfect role if you are looking for to make your professional world much larger, not only integrating with M&E experts but also with professionals from differing sectors, as the team consists of a mixture of Building Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors, Projects Managers, M&E Engineers and Commercial Asset Consultancy professionals. If this sounds of interest or just intriguing, then please get in touch for an initial chat through this opportunity.
