Frequently Asked Questions

Applications for 2025 are now open.

Submit your application using the form here. You can save your progress and return later if needed.

Make sure to apply before submissions close on 25 April 2025.

To be eligible for the Ken Dale Travel Bursary, you must:

  • Be an early-career CIBSE member (Student, Graduate, Affiliate, Licentiate or Associate). Your membership must be active and up to date at the time of application.

Find out more about CIBSE membership.

  • Have up to ten years of experience in the building services engineering field.

A written report of 5,000 - 10,000 words, based on the research and travel experience, will be produced, and its findings will be presented at the President's Awards Dinner.

  1. Submit your application: Provide a detailed research proposal outlining your project and its potential impact on the building services industry.

    Applications close 25 April 2025.

  2. Shortlist and interview: A CIBSE panel will review applications and create a shortlist. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to present their proposals at an interview. During this stage, you will be asked to provide an estimated budget for your project. If you have applied for or secured additional funding from other sources, please disclose this information at the interview.

Interviews will take place in May 2025.

Your annual leave requirements need to be approved by your employer before submitting your application. Please discuss this with them prior to applying. Past candidates have distributed their annual leave across an extended duration rather than utilising it in a continuous block.

The Bursary makes awards available between £1,500 - £4,000. If shortlisted for an interview, you will then be asked to provide an estimate of the amount of money you would require to conduct your research project.
