Energy waste report a timely intervention, says CIBSE

The Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) has released a report, featuring new analysis which shows the UK wastes £9.5bn of energy before it reaches homes and businesses. Sara Kassam, Head of Sustainability Development at the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, said:

“Reducing the demand for energy is currently the poor relation in the quest for decarbonisation, but is essential to meet the UK’s challenging carbon reduction targets. It will also enable the private sector to remain competitive and the public sector to deliver best value services.

“The publication of this report is extremely timely, considering the recent launch of HM Treasury’s consultation on reforming the business energy efficiency tax landscape. Like others, CIBSE has demonstrated that working on energy efficiency in existing buildings through better facilities management and refurbishment / retrofit is an effective way to reduce energy consumption and costs.”
