CIBSE ESOS scheme up and running

CIBSE Certification Ltd is one of the first to be approved by the Environment Agency today [17 October] to operate a register of Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) Lead Assessors – and already has it up and running.

What is ESOS?

ESOS is the UK’s way to implement Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive, and introduces mandatory energy audits for non-SMEs. It is estimated to apply to almost 10,000 businesses and up to 200,000 buildings.

How to become a CIBSE ESOS Lead Assessor

The ESOS Lead Assessor Register has been approved as a subset of the CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants Register, so to become a CIBSE ESOS Lead Assessor you must first apply to become a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant (LCC). LCCs can then apply to be assessed for addition to the ESOS Lead Assessors Register.

Why will clients use a CIBSE certified assessor?

CIBSE’s major focus is on the energy performance of buildings, making us a clear choice if most of a client’s energy use is in buildings. Clients will also find assessors on our register with experience in other sectors, processes and transport, which means they will find a suitable ESOS Lead Assessor whatever their energy mix.

Clients can be confident using CIBSE registered ESOS Lead Assessors, who will need to have demonstrated at least two, and typically more than four years, relevant experience in addition to any qualifications they hold, and are also trained to provide high quality information.
