International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories - Australia Launch

Back to CIBSE ANZ home

I2SL (International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories) is an organization devoted to the principles of sustainable laboratories and related high-technology facilities, from design to engineering to operation.
David Keenan of CBRE hosted a launch meeting on Tuesday 29 October for the proposed establishment of an Australian chapter and/or State chapters for I2SL.

The launch event took advantage of I2SL board member, Gordon Sharp, being in country. The agenda of the meeting included a call for volunteers to support, and a technical presentation by Gordon on Aircuity technology.

The meeting attracted an audience of clients, engineers, architects and other interested parties and the establishment of I2SL was warmly embraced.  The intention going forward is to meet again with those who expressed an interest in establishing a NSW group as well as scheduling other roll out meetings in other states/territories.

A similar meeting has been organised in Brisbane 5:30pm, 2 December, at the CBRE Office. Anyone interested in attending is encouraged to RSVP to [email protected] by 28 November 2019

I2SL facilitates a network of technical capabilities to address global needs in the following areas while incorporating a whole-building approach to sustainable design of laboratories and other high-tech facilities. These capabilities include:

  • Providing infrastructure assessments
  • Offering technical assistance
  • Sharing new technologies through customized training and workshops
  • Assisting with project charettes
  • Developing case studies and best practices
  • Supporting the next generation of sustainable design professionals through activities such as the International Sustainable Laboratory Student Design Competition.

Through worldwide partnerships and the exchange of technical expertise, I2SL encourages the development of high-tech facilities that address the rapid pace of science, medicine, research, and development in an ever-changing and dynamic environment.
