The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL) appointed Brendan Keely as Secretary in succession to Liz Peck last night, 28th June 2013, at the London Irish Centre.
Brendan joins SLL from BDP, where he led the Manchester lighting design studio for several years, and was also regional representative for SLL in the North West. Brendan brings over 25 years of practical experience in lighting to the role, which will see him leading the fundamental work of the Society.
Brendan said "I am delighted to be joining the Society as Secretary. I am committed to lighting design to deliver a sustainable lit environment and to be coordinated with architecture, detail and form. I look forward to working with Kevin and the Society Executive."
Kelly also praised Liz Peck, "I would like to thank Liz for all that she achieved during her time as SLL Secretary and I am looking forward to her support as a Vice President in my presidential year, as we seek to develop the Society together."
Announcing the appointment, outgoing SLL President Iain Macrae said "I am delighted that Brendan is taking on the role of Secretary, to further develop our work and promote the Society and Lighting profession more widely".
New SLL President Dr Kevin Kelly welcomed the appointment, saying "I am excited that we have been able to bring Brendan into the role of Secretary, to support the work we are doing in delivering professional guidance, to promote the Society within the industry and to develop our membership more widely. I look forward to working with Brendan over the coming year."
Last night Dr Kevin Kelly announced collaborative working, holistic building design and proper measurement of systems as some of his key areas to work on. SLL is part of CIBSE which also promotes knowledge sharing and collaborative working.
