Singapore

Singapore, a former British colony officially known as The Republic of Singapore, is a South East Asia country made up of 63 islands separated by Malaysia to its north and Indonesia to its south.

As a highly urbanized city-state, the country has very little primary rainforest and more land is being created for development through land reclamation from 581.5 sq km to an area of around 710 sq km.

Being a tropical climate, buildings' energy demand is driven by mechanical cooling and ventilation which can account for up to 50% of the annual running cost in a commercial building. Therefore, as buildings become more integrated to the people and the environment, more sustainable solutions will be required for the generations to come.

CIBSE's drive for engineering excellence is a journey to share, transfer and empower the knowledge to practise the art of science and engineering that makes it an integral part of the building industry. With over 70 members in Singapore, we aim to share our experiences and knowledge to create a sustainable built environment.

We envisage starting a small group of interested members to generate local events such as technical meetings of like-minded individuals who can share their experiences, site visits and other activities.

If you are interested in assisting please contact Country Representative for Singapore Mr Hsieh-Min Loy via email.
