Philip King, Design Director (recently retired), Hilson Moran
Phil trained as an HVAC Designer from 1969-1974 in the DOE/PSA. Following a series of career moves and a spell in Vancouver he joined Hilson Moran in 1987. As the practice’s Design Director, Phil worked closely with clients, Directors and Project Directors to develop initial concept and strategy on major projects along with acting as a source of technical support to our design teams throughout the design process.
Phil became a Divisional Director responsible for running a multidisciplinary design team in 1996, before moving into his Design Director role in 2008. He played a leading role in some of the most advanced designs the practice has delivered - including 30 St Mary’s Axe, the UK’s first mixed mode high rise office - and has a particular interest in the application of innovation in building services design to improve energy performance in both new build and refurbishment projects.
Phil recently retired from Hilson Moran but has an ongoing role as a Consultant.
As a former motor racing driver, Phil now (mainly) watches others while enjoying a few quieter hobbies and interests.
