Embodied carbon in building services: Using the TM65 methodology outside the UK (TM65LA) aims to complement CIBSE TM65 Embodied carbon in building services: A calculation methodology, and to create global consistency on how the embodied carbon of building services equipment can be assessed. As such, it sets out how the embodied carbon methodology can be adapted to be used outside of the UK. It is not a standalone document, and cannot be applied without first understanding TM65.
To ensure that the CIBSE embodied carbon methodology is globally valid and globally consistent, CIBSE supports the creation of local addenda to TM65 that are specific to localities outside of the UK. This document aims to assist in the creation of these local addenda. Assumptions should be relevant to the locality in question, and consistent with the CIBSE TM65 methodology.
Those interested in creating a local addendum to the TM65 methodology should first read the FAQ section and process description at www.cibse.org/tm65. It may also be helpful to review the first international addendum, Embodied carbon in building services: A calculation methodology for Australia and New Zealand (TM65ANZ).
The CIBSE embodied carbon methodology now includes several publications, digital tools, and free-to-all data-gathering forms. All of these can be accessed from www.cibse.org/tm65.
To find out more about both TM65ANZ (Embodied carbon in building services: A calculation methodology for Australia and Newx Zealand) and TM65LA (Embodied carbon in building services: Using the TM65 methodology outside the UK), access the the CIBSE #GrowYourKnowledge webinar here. There are a few other #GrowYourKnowledge webinars about the TM65 methodology as well - all can be found at www.cibse.org/growyourknowledge.

2 Creating a local addendum to CIBSE TM65: The process
Step 1: Go/No go
Step 2: Contact CIBSE
Step 3: Set up a working group in the defined locality
Step 4: Clarify how the TM65 methodology should be adapted
Step 5: Agree material embodied carbon coefficients
Step 6: Agree assumptions specific to the locality
Step 7: Conduct a sensitivity analysis
Step 8: Draft the addendum
Step 9: Engage with stakeholders and marketing teams
