Frequently Asked Questions
Once you've submitted your application form, the CIBSE panel will generate a shortlist of applicants based on their research proposals and the final selection will take place following short presentations by the shortlisted candidates during the interview taking place in May/June 2024.
Your annual leave requirements need to be approved by your employer before submitting your application. Please discuss this with them prior to applying. Past candidates have distributed their annual leave across an extended duration rather than utilising it in a contiguous block.
The Bursary makes awards available of between £1,500 - £4,000. If shortlisted for an interview, you will then be asked to provide an estimate of the amount of money you would require to conduct your research project.
Those applying to the Ken Dale Travel Bursary must be a member of CIBSE and in the developmental stage of their career. Find out more about CIBSE membership.
A written report of 5,000 - 10,000 words, based on the research and travel experience, will be produced, and its findings will be presented at the President's Prize dinner.
