  • Awareness of substation layout of equipment
  • Appreciate the electrical plant and equipment used in main, sub main and final distribution and circuits
  • Knowledge of electric shock and the need for continued electrical safety
  • Appraisal of different type of circuit protection (fuses or circuit breakers)
  • Through simple calculation, understand the basics of lighting design
  • Appreciate the different type of wiring systems available and how to select the best system with regard to installation, maintenance and cost considerations
  • Understand the various factors applied to correct cable sizing
  • Gain an appreciation of BS7671 IEE Wiring Regulations and Electricity at Work Regulations
  • Understand the need for initial and periodic inspection and testing and PAT testing for continuing safety of electrical systems
  • Understand the role of the electrical designer, installer and tester in an electrical installation and their responsibilities concerning certification and reporting

Who Should Attend

The course is designed for those wanting an increased level awareness of electrical systems within buildings. The course is particularly suitable for those starting out on a career in electrical services design and installation within consultancy, contractors, in-company design engineers. The course is specifically useful to non-electrical specialists including Project Managers, Architects, Mechanical & HVAC Engineers, Facilities Managers and Building Managers and contractors, who require a thorough appreciation of electrical systems in buildings.
