Key areas

This is a two day course aimed at providing an understanding of the Heat Network Code of Practice (CP1), and how to use this on projects. The course will provide a background to CP1 and a review of each stage, comprising an overview of the key issues and risks and a review of the objectives and minimum requirements and guidance on how to address these. Following the course there is the opportunity to take an exam which allows entry to the Heat Networks Consultant register.

PLEASE NOTE - Certification as a Heat Networks Consultant is intended to demonstrate an understanding of the Heat Networks Code of Practice and does not guarantee expertise in all areas covered by the Code.

 Course Content

The Course will cover the following:

  • Background to the Heat Networks Code of Practice: Why it is needed? New heat networks, and common problems
  • Preparation & briefing stage
  • Feasiblilty stage
  • Design stage
  • Constuction stage
  • Commissioning stage
  • Operation, maintenance, customer expeectations, and obligations stage

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain an understanding of the aims and context of the code, and current challenges for heat network design.
  • Gain an understanding of how the code should be used, and the key goals running through the document.
  • Gain an understanding of the application of the code to different types of heat networks.
  • Gain an understanding of the key objectives and minimum requirements for each stage of the Code and how to address these. 

About the Exam

The exam comprises 35 multiple choice questions and 2 worked examples. The exam will last for 90 minutes and a score of 70% or more is required to pass. No specific prior knowledge is required and copies of both CP1 and the course handouts can be used during the exam. More about the exam here

Self assessment and preparation

This course is intensive and assumes a significant level of existing knowledge in heat networks. Whilst we do not have formal entry requirements for the Heat Networks Consultant register, in our experience applicants with a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience are more likely to be successful with the assessment.
